Iperf

The Iperf application allows you to test the bandwidth of a certain communication channel. To test it, you need to run the program on two computers.

Working principle

The application is portable and does not require installation on a PC. After unpacking the archive it is enough to run the executable file. It is important to run one application in the server mode and the second in the client mode. The speed is measured from the client to the second PC. A UDP and TCP packet generator is integrated, which provides a fairly high accuracy of work.

Main options

Operation is performed in command line mode. The main commands for customization are:

• "H" provides invocation of help;
• "F" defines the format of displaying the received speed;
• "P" allows you to configure the port, by default 5001 is used;
• "M" allows you to specify the packet size;
• "U" provides switching to UDP protocol;
• "S" displays full information on the screen.

The full list of commands is available in the help section. It is worth considering that the interface is available only in English. However, the control is well thought out, only the basic settings are used. At the same time, there is a system of hints. The obtained reports allow you to identify problem nodes in the local network, which speeds up the process of localization and problem elimination. A local network may initially include a large number of PCs, which complicates the search for a problem area.
