MHDD

MHDD is a popular Windows application that allows you to perform a detailed test of your hard disk. In the process, it searches for problematic sectors and can recover them. Low-level formatting is supported. All current interfaces are supported, including IDE and SCSI. It is possible to unload SMART information, optimize the noise level and other useful operations that allow you to significantly extend the life of an important PC node.

Startup

The program works only from the boot disk. It is distributed as a standard ISO image, which must be written to a suitable drive. Any program for creating bootable USB disks is suitable. Next, you need to check the BIOS parameters, changing the startup parameters if necessary. The first position should be the device on which the program is written, so that the booting starts from it. If the preparation is done correctly, after booting, a menu with available options will appear on the screen. You can explicitly specify the hard disk for testing.

Scanning

The program allows you to check the magnetic surface to find "broken" sectors. Such areas can be attempted to be repaired or completely eliminated from operation. SMART data allows you to quickly check the overall condition of the disk, which allows you to determine the profitability of its further use.

Tools

Another popular feature is deep disk formatting. Unlike quick formatting, this function overwrites data on all sectors, which excludes data recovery. This is necessary, for example, if the drive is passed on to outsiders. There is a set of settings for flexible partition management. It is possible to activate a password for access to files.
